Tacuarembó is a city in the north of Uruguay, located in the Cerrillos region and is the capital of the homonymous department.
It is known for its history, gaucho culture and rural tourism, becoming an important tourist center in the region.
The city has several museums, including the Carlos Gardel Museum, which celebrates the city's relationship with the famous tango singer, as well as the Museum of History and Crafts, which presents the history of the region.
Other attractions include the Church of San Francisco de Asís and Plaza 19 de Abril.
To get to Tacuarembó from Montevideo you can take a bus or car along Route 5, which connects the two cities in a journey of approximately 4 hours. It is also possible to arrive from other cities in the country by regular buses.
The city is in a privileged location, halfway between Montevideo and the border with Brazil, which makes it a strategic point in the north of the country.
