Tacuarembó is a department located in the north of Uruguay, known for its extensive plains and its important livestock activity.
Its capital, the city of Tacuarembó, has a population of around 55,000 inhabitants and is located in the center of the department.
The region is famous for its cheeses and dairy products, and also has important archaeological and tourist sites such as Cerro Batoví, Valle Edén and the Valle del Lunarejo Natural Park.
The Fiesta de la Patria Gaucha, one of the most important celebrations in the country, takes place in Tacuarembó every year.
