San Carlos is a city located in the department of Maldonado, in Uruguay.
Known as "La Capital del Este", it is located in the region known as "La Barra", which is the connection between the Atlantic coast and the rural area of the department.
The city has a main square surrounded by historical buildings, among which the "Carlos César Lena" Summer Theater stands out. In addition, it has a wide range of restaurants, bars and craft shops.
Among its tourist attractions are the beaches in the area, such as La Mansa and La Brava, which are ideal for practicing water sports. You can also visit the nearby wineries and enjoy the region's wine production.
To get to San Carlos you can take national route number 9 that connects Montevideo with Punta del Este, and then route 12 that leads directly to the city. It can also be accessed from other nearby towns through the public transport network.
The location of San Carlos is strategic, since it is located a few kilometers from Punta del Este, the main tourist destination in Uruguay, and in the heart of an area of agricultural and wine production.
