Pando is a city located in the department of Canelones, in the southern zone of Uruguay.
It was founded in 1813 by the Spanish soldier José Joaquín de Viana. In colonial times, the city was an important commercial center due to its strategic location on the route that connected Montevideo with the north of the country.
During the Great War, Pando was the scene of important battles, such as the one at Sauce Grande in 1843 and the one at Cerrito in 1846, which left traces in its historical and cultural heritage.
At present, Pando is a city in constant growth and development, with an important commercial activity and an outstanding cultural offer.
Among its attractions are the Artigas Park, the Plaza de la Libertad, the Artigas Theater, the Regional Historical Museum and the House of Culture.
