Montevideo is the capital and largest city of Uruguay, with a population of around 1.3 million.
It is located on the southern coast of the country, at the mouth of the Río de la Plata, opposite Buenos Aires. It is the seat of the national government, as well as most of the country's political, cultural, and educational institutions.
Among its tourist attractions are the Old City, with its colonial architecture and the Mercado del Puerto; La Rambla, an extensive coastal promenade with panoramic views of the Río de la Plata; and Rodó Park, with its lake and numerous attractions.
It also has a wide cultural offer, which includes theaters, museums, and music and film festivals.
To get to Montevideo you can use the international airport, which receives national and international flights, as well as by road from other cities in the country and from Argentina and Brazil.
It also has an important port that connects with other destinations on the Río de la Plata.
