Las Piedras is a Uruguayan city located in the department of Canelones, about 27 km north of Montevideo, the capital of the country.
It limits to the east with Progreso, to the north with Canelones, to the west with Nicolich and to the south with the Pando stream. The city is located on a plain that is crossed by several streams and has a population of around 80,000.
Las Piedras is located in a strategic area, near Montevideo and a few kilometers from the Río de la Plata coast, which makes it an important commercial and industrial center. In addition, the city has a good road infrastructure, which facilitates access from other areas of the country.
The city of Las Piedras has several tourist attractions, including Parque Artigas, where the monument to General José Gervasio Artigas is located, and Plaza Constitución, which is the center of the city and where the San Isidro Labrador Cathedral is located. It also has several museums, such as the Las Piedras Museum of History and Art and the Railway Museum.
