Canelones is a department located in the southern zone of Uruguay, bordered to the south by the Río de la Plata and to the east by the department of Montevideo. Its capital is the city of Canelones, which is located about 50 kilometers north of Montevideo. The department has a coastline of about 65 kilometers in length, with white sand beaches and calm and warm waters.
Canelones is also crossed by several rivers, such as the Santa Lucía, the Pando and the Canelón Chico, which form natural landscapes of great beauty. In addition, the department is famous for its vineyards and wineries, where the most important wine in Uruguay is produced.
Among its tourist attractions are the Natural Reserve of Salinas del Santa Lucía, the Atlántida spa, Roosevelt Park and the city of Las Piedras, with its beautiful square and its cathedral. It also has several museums, such as the National Historical Museum of Las Piedras and the Francisco Espínola Museum in Canelones.
