Artigas is a city in the north of Uruguay, located in the department of the same name, on the border with Brazil.
It is located about 600 km from the capital, Montevideo. The city is located on the banks of the Cuareim River, which separates Uruguay from Brazil.
Artigas is one of the most important cities in the northern region of the country, being a strategic point for trade and relations between Uruguay and Brazil.
In addition, the city is the capital of the homonymous department and has important services such as hospitals, banks and government offices.
In its surroundings you can find various tourist attractions, such as the International Park, which covers both Uruguayan and Brazilian territory, the Santa Teresa Fortress, Cerro Batoví and the Arapey Hot Springs.
The city is also known for its production of semi-precious stones, especially amethyst.
