Solymar is a city located in the department of Canelones, on the southern coast of Uruguay.
Its history begins at the beginning of the 20th century, when it was founded as a summer resort for the inhabitants of Montevideo. In its beginnings, the area was mainly rural and dedicated to agriculture, but over time weekend houses and permanent residences began to be installed.
Over the years, Solymar grew in size and population, becoming a popular tourist destination due to its beautiful beaches, its proximity to Montevideo, and its offer of tourist services.
Currently, it has a wide variety of accommodation, restaurants, bars and shops, as well as activities for the whole family.
In addition to its beaches, Solymar has other tourist attractions such as the Laguna del Cisne, a protected wetland where you can observe various species of birds, and the Eduardo Ruiz Coastal Flora and Fauna Reserve, an area of dunes and lagoons with great biodiversity. .
To get to Solymar from Montevideo, you can take the Ruta Interbalnearia in an easterly direction and then take the corresponding exit.
There are also several bus lines that connect the city with the capital and other nearby towns.
