Punta Ballena is a small peninsula located in the department of Maldonado, in Uruguay.
It is known for its impressive panoramic view of the Portezuelo bay and for being the home of the famous sculptor and artist Carlos Páez Vilaró.
The peninsula has several beaches, such as Las Grutas beach, perfect for water sports such as windsurfing and kitesurfing. In addition, there is the famous Casa Pueblo, an architectural work of art designed by Páez Vilaró, which is now a museum and art gallery.
Punta Ballena is a popular place to watch the sunset and has several bars and restaurants to enjoy dining overlooking the sea. You can also visit the Arboretum Lussich, a botanical garden with more than 500 species of trees and plants from all over the world.
To get to Punta Ballena, you can take the Interbalnearia Route from Montevideo or Punta del Este and then take a detour to the Panoramic Route to reach the peninsula.
