Nueva Palmira is a city located in the department of Colonia, on the west coast of Uruguay, on the banks of the Uruguay River and at the mouth of the Arroyo de las Vacas.
It is located about 215 km northwest of Montevideo and about 55 km south of the Argentine city of Concordia.
It is an important river port and has a ferry terminal that connects with the Argentine city of Tigre, in the province of Buenos Aires.
It is also located near the Río Uruguay Biosphere Natural Reserve, which makes it a gateway to this protected natural area.
