Nueva Helvecia is a city founded by Swiss settlers in the department of Colonia, Uruguay, in the year 1862.
The Swiss settled there due to the large amount of fertile land that allowed the development of agriculture and the production of milk and cheese.
Today, the city maintains the Swiss tradition in its architecture and gastronomy, and is known for its cultural festivals, such as the National Cheese Festival.
In addition, it has tourist attractions such as the Regional Historical Museum, the Park of the Hanged Man and the Swiss Evangelical Church.
