Maldonado is a city located in the department of Maldonado, southeast of Uruguay.
Known as the "Capital of Tourism" of the country, it is an important economic and tourist center.
In the center of the city, there is the Cathedral of San Fernando, built in 1895, as well as the main square, where you can find restaurants, bars and shops.
The port of Punta del Este, one of the most important in the region, is also located near the city. Maldonado has several nearby beaches, such as the popular Mansa beach, as well as a number of parks and nature reserves. In addition, the city is home to the main campus of the University of the Republic in Maldonado, which is one of the most important universities in the country.
