Costa Azul was at one time a large expanse of fields and sand dunes, owned by Don Juan and Dona Sabina Oillartaguerre Pelaez.
This was sold in 1902 to Don Bernardo Sourbies and inherited by his daughter Maria Sourbies in 1931.
In 1934, Maria Sourbies with her husband Don Miguel Buranelli, took the first steps in the development of new spa.
At first they were 43 hectares and then in 1947 was 162 hectares.
Costa Azul grew rapidly, incorporating utilities, streets, lighting, hotels and tourist services.
Its name recalls the famous resorts of the French Riviera.
