How to get to Cabo Polonio

From Montevideo it is necessary to travel to kilometer 264 of Route 10, in the department of Rocha; at that point is the entrance to the spa. This entrance can be reached by car or through some of the transmission lines that make the journey from Montevideo. Once at the entrance to the options are walking 7 km between dunes and forest, transport or hire any of the ATVs that make the crossing to Cape Polonio. There are also horse-drawn carts, leading to Cabo Polonio, both from its entry on the route, and from the nearby resort of Valizas.

From Valizas you can make the most panoramic "tour" to walk to Cabo Polonio. A walk among the dunes for about 8 to 10 km, according to whether the straight line follows or sea borders and time-consuming between one and three hours. It takes a good physical condition and choose the most appropriate sun time to hit the trail, since it passes walk through giant dunes up to 30 meters high, similar to a desert circling the ocean.
